Tomorrow Together Initiative

Equipping LA Youth With Tools For Life-Long Success

If you were told any dream of yours was possible, that you had endless tools and professionals at your disposal, what would you dream to achieve? At the Tomorrow Together Initiative, low-income first-generation students in the greater Los Angeles area are partnered with local four-year colleges to learn the foundational skills of leadership, charity, entrepreneurship, and college preparedness. Together, students and college mentors make any and every dream come true.

Our Mission

The Tomorrow Together Initiative is dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth in Los Angeles by offering mentorship, academic support, and project-based leadership opportunities. Through these resources, the program aims to equip students with essential life skills and academic tools, fostering independence and paving the way toward higher education and generational success. By bridging the gap between underserved students and opportunities for growth, the initiative seeks to inspire long-term prosperity and self-sufficiency in the classroom and beyond.

The Opportunity

This fall, undergraduate students from the University of Southern California collaborated with sixth-grade students from Vox Collegiate, a local charter middle school that caters to low-income youth in the South Los Angeles area. USC students met with the middle schoolers to discuss areas of social need in their academic environment. From these conversations, the following key student concerns were outlined:

  1. Physical Activity: Creating new and fun opportunities for outdoor enrichment and sports.

  2. Mental Health: Fostering mindfulness in the classroom and developing healthy coping strategies for school and home-related stressors.

  3. Community: Embracing South LA culture and exploring free and low-cost activities in the area.

  4. Food Security and Nutrition: Establishing accessibility to healthy, nutritious meals to support the growth and well-being of students.

USC students effectively collaborated with their middle school partners, incorporating their guidance and feedback to design potential campus initiatives tailored to the school’s needs. They then presented these programs to the school’s core administrative team and received overwhelmingly positive responses, making this inaugural program a sound case study of the effectiveness of such mentorship programs. The young students felt empowered to help those within their communities and now have both the leadership experience and confidence to pursue more transformative projects throughout their academic careers. More local youth deserve such an enlightening experience, and the Tomorrow Together Initiative can make it happen.

Our Solution

By teaching middle school and high school students the basics of leadership, charity, entrepreneurship, and college preparedness, our greater LA community will thrive for many generations to come. Unlike traditional mentorship programs, the Tomorrow Together Initiative specifically caters to the needs and goals of students at individual schools, similar to USC’s partnership with VOX. The Tomorrow Together Initiative takes a holistic approach to mentorship by connecting young students with a core college mentor, an occupational therapy specialist, and an academic sponsor from their campus.

  • Core college mentors will support students by teaching them leadership skills, helping them develop an independent small business venture, assisting with developing a charity initiative, and sharing insight into their college application and campus experiences.

  • Occupational therapy specialists will offer expert life skills development support such as teaching students how to manage their time better, improve their health habits, and other necessary occupations throughout their academic careers.

  • On-campus academic sponsors will be teachers at students’ schools partnered directly with the Tomorrow Together Initiative. These sponsors will monitor students’ academic progress, support them with managing on-campus programs developed by students, and assist students with setting goals for their college careers.

The Tomorrow Together Initiative serves to supplement the lack of guidance that many low-income and first-generation students face in the greater Los Angeles area. Creating such a supportive environment for students is essential to fostering their confidence and academic success, both of which will lead them on a path toward a brighter future and college education.

Why Invest?

Anima Mundi Development Partners should consider investing in the Tomorrow Together Initiative because of its innovative and holistic approach to student mentorship. By supporting this initiative, AMDP would serve as the backbone for a new generation of business leaders, changemakers, and scholars. AMDP’s generosity would significantly benefit the youth of Los Angeles, helping fund their dreams of academic success and social impact. A key challenge facing our community is the financial barrier to accessing proper academic support and extracurricular opportunities, both of which are crucial for students’ chances of pursuing higher education. By investing in the Tomorrow Together Initiative, AMDP would help eliminate this barrier and pave the way for a new wave of imaginative, ambitious students.

The Ask

Our organization is requesting a $00,000 investment from AMDP to launch a year-long pilot program in partnership with John Muir Middle School and Crenshaw High School. These funds will directly support the transportation of students between USC and their respective schools, finance student-led programs on each campus, and provide supplemental academic and wellness resources. Following the pilot year, the Tomorrow Together Initiative will reconvene with AMDP to evaluate the program's performance and discuss potential expansions to additional schools or further investments in the original sites. We deeply appreciate AMDP’s consideration and look forward to collaborating to bring the aspirations of our next generation to life.
