Assignment 2: Job Description

 Junior Marketing & Creative Specialist

Every single advertisement you swipe past on your social media feed has been carefully curated to your identity. If you’ve ever wondered why your algorithm served you a particular ad or how it was developed, you have come to the right place. As a Junior Marketing & Creative Specialist, I’ve worked with big brands on influencer campaigns. Funny enough, I once saw an ad from one of my favorite social media stars that I wrote for a campaign with Palmer’s. Let us dive into the world of the Creator Economy and unpack your unique advertising algorithm.

The role of a Junior Marketing & Creative Specialist can be different depending on the company. Simply put, I have overlapping tasks between the Marketing and Creative departments at The Influencer Marketing Factory, which involve internal and external marketing efforts, market research on the Creator Economy, and helping with creative campaigns for our clients. I work from home, so I can work from my apartment, a coffee shop, or anywhere I can focus and connect with my team in the East Coast and Mexico City. Our agency has over 50 employees worldwide, with HQs in New York, Miami, and Amsterdam. My daily tasks include content marketing for our agency and working on Creator Economy reports. I only handle creative tasks only when helping with larger clients.

When thinking about my dynamic role at IMF, I like to divide my tasks into three main categories:

  1. Marketing

  2. Industry research

  3. Campaign development

Though my tasks overlap, Industry Research is the anchor that holds everything together. I write our biweekly LinkedIn newsletter, researching trends and designing content. You can think of these tasks as like being a journalist who focuses only on the Creator Economy and influencer marketing. Research is key to Campaign Development, as I look at competitors and find popular influencers to reach out to.

A Typical Day as a Junior Marketing & Creative Specialist

One of my favorite parts about our culture at IMF is our leadership’s love for education. While learning new skills daily at my job, I’m also pursuing a B.S. in Business Administration at USC. Mondays and Wednesdays are my busiest days including a full load of classes and work-related tasks, so I wanted to share my typical schedule.

8:00 AM: Log into Slack and Outlook, respond to any urgent messages, and begin to read email newsletters and reputable online publications on Creator Economy news.

9:00 AM: Join any necessary podcast pre-calls, connect with my manager for pending tasks, and continue industry research.

10:00 AM: Make any final revisions for our LinkedIn Newsletter, create a thumbnail for our newsletter and send visual elements to our CEO for scheduling, design email newsletter and share with my manager for review, design and schedule news image carousel for social media channels, and share weekly news bulletin with Marketing team via Slack.

11:45 AM - 3:20 PM: Go to class (Occupational Therapy and WRIT 340).

3:30 PM: Return home and continue miscellaneous marketing tasks.

4:00 PM: Follow up with any additional emails about podcast scheduling or contributions to our upcoming Creator Economy report.

4:30 PM: Update our podcasting schedule and content calendar for the upcoming week.

5:00 PM: Schedule upcoming podcast promotional clips for social channels and draft necessary captions.

5:45 PM: Leave for final class (BUAD 311) then do evening routine.

Special Projects

Beyond my daily tasks, I work on our yearly Creator Economy reports, write blog posts based on my research, and help with campaigns for our clients. Our marketing team spends about three months planning, researching, designing, and promoting each report. I am usually in charge of doing market research for our reports, helping our CEO with outlining user survey questions, and writing most of the report. I have written over five #1-ranked blogs on Google in this year focusing on influencer-founded brands. Working on campaigns for clients is one of my favorite parts of my job because I get to develop creative concepts for brands and watch them come to life on my personal social media feed. When working on campaigns, I help with researching competitors, coming up with ideas, finding talent, and planning marketing strategies. I’m always looking forward to our next big project!
